Uber Eats wants to grow up. To achieve this, today Uber announces the purchase of Postmates, one of the great food delivery services, as explained by the companies in a press release. The transaction will be for $2.65 billion in cash, as previously announced by Bloomberg.
Shared taxi service has been one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic. However, the delivery service has been greatly strengthened during this time of confinement. With the purchase of Postmates, Uber will seek to strengthen his food delivery section. According to the New York Times, Uber hopes to merge Postmates with Uber Eats and Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, current VP of Uber Eats, would lead this merger of the two companies.
Postmates was founded in 2011 and is known for being one of the first companies to activate food delivery through a mobile application. It currently has more than 600,000 stores around the United States. Uber’s purchase of Postmates will allow the company to compete for leadership in the shipping industry.
